5 months in – a few questions for us all

I have decided to ask all of the gang the same question and I have not altered their answers.

Oskar (10)

How do you feel after 5 months in?

Lonely and missing my best friends but still enjoying the journey and looking forward to what follows

What was you favourite place so far?

Koh Tao and Bangkok

Why?

Koh Tao because we spent a month and Christmas, and I also did my PADI and we made some friends it was chilling, relaxing, the beach, the sun and the sea just sweet.

BKK: It was busy, crazy, crowded; tuktuk drivers kept on asking you for a ride. Bangkok is for people who love cities and madness.

Are you happy with the journey so far?

now that I think about it, yes. It allow us to see how other people live and what their cultures are and enables us to see beautiful countries, temples and beaches and taste different food.

Would you recommend your friends to do this kind of journey?

Yes it is amazing but if you go for a long time you can get really homesick, as I am feeling at the moment.

Would you like to go home now?

Yes and No

Yes because I am missing everyone and no because I still have a lot to see and a lot to experience.

How do you feel now after 5 months in?

On the whole pretty good. After Angkor Wat it feels as though we’ve been a little rudderless, but now we are moving north through Vietnam I feel like we’re back on track. I’m looking forward to some beach and some mountains away from the major cities.

What was you favourite place so far?

Gili T was fantastic, Koh Tao was awesome, Bangkok was fun, Angkor Wat was beautiful, Melaka was charming, Kuala Lumpur was great, Taiping was unexpected and Taman Negara was a privilege.

Why?

If I have to pick a favourite I would probably choose Kuala Lumpur as there was so much to see and do and the Step Inn hotel was a brilliant place to stay with such a welcome from Connie and the staff. Followed a close second by Koh Tao as we had a chance to have our own space for a month, and of course to learn to scuba dive!

Are you happy with the journey so far?

It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it has not disappointed. Sure there have been moments of disappointment and some cases of the blues, but we have grown closer as a family and experienced things that we will never forget. Long after the journey has ended we will have our fantastic memories and shared experiences, and of course our photos!! I feel sure that we have some more brilliant times  ahead before we head home.

Would you like to go home now?

No. Although I am missing family and friends, and our things around us, there is still much to see in Vietnam and the north of Thailand which I don’t want us to miss out on. Who knows when we will have the opportunity to be in this part of the world again? For now, our life is 5 people, 5 rucksacks and 5 minds to fill with experiences as we drink from the cup of adventure and eat the cake of culture and brush our teeth with the toothpaste of the unknown.

How do you feel after 5 months in?
Good I think. Those last few weeks have been pretty hard and I am really looking forward to heading to the north of Vietnam.
What was you favourite place so far?
Difficult question, Gili Trewagan for the turtles, Melaka for the beautiful little streets. Ko Tao for the beach and farniente, BKK for the madness but also for the beauty of the temples, Siem Reap for the striking temples
Why?
See above
Are you happy with the journey so far?
Yes, very much. We have learnt so much as a family and individually. I knew it was not going to be happy and easy everyday and at time I have felt really down but compare to what I have seen, experienced and lived with the gang, the down side is way behind the upside.
Would you like to go home now?
Yes and no. I miss my family, home, sanity, cooking, my bed but I am thirsty to know more, see more, feel more.

Hey folks, it’s a great idea to ask these questions periodically, and very brave to answer them! 🙂

Missing you all. I’m with you on your journeys. I’ve never really considered exploring SE Asia, mainly due to the off-putting humidity and heat. Heat I like, but desert heat, not jungle heat. However, your experiences are inspiring.

    Bravissimo! Je vous aimez! (Spelling?)
