21/10/2011 Tales from Indonesia and Malaysia

Hello to Saffi, Mrs Payne, Miss Barratt, Mrs Settle, Tom and all of my friends. I am in Melaka, Malaysia and I want to tell you some of the things that I have been doing in the last few weeks.

We left the Gili Islands on the fast boat to Bali. I was sick, it was not fun! We caught the coach from Denpasar to Jogjakarta, I was sick again! But then I slept for the rest of the journey. In Jogja we stayed at a very beautiful hotel with a swimming pool. I swam in it every day, and swam underwater from one side to the other.

Whilst in Jogja we saw some dancing….

And we went to visit two magnificent temples…

After Jogja we went to Jakarta on the airplane. As we landed, we flew through a lightning storm, it was very bumpy but exciting. In Jakarta there was lots of traffic and we went to visit a few museums. My favourite was the Kite Museum. It was cool and I got to make my own kite…..

We then flew from Jakarta to Singapore and from there caught a bus to Melaka in Malaysia.

Since we arrived here we have visited the Maritime and Naval museums…

Here we saw a Pirate Ship (Ed: the museum is in a reproduction of a Portuguese ship)

And pretended to be astronauts. Across the road there was another museum with a real PT Cruiser from WW II which we were able to climb aboard, but it was raining pretty hard so we ran back to the museum to keep dry!

Yesterday we went to a Butterfly Park and a Jungle Rainforest Park. There were lots of butterflies, some crocodiles and snakes! We went inside one of the cages with the snakes and they were just hanging in the trees above our heads. Daddy had to duck under them. I wasn’t scared! The picture below shows the snakes that were free in the cage.

The Rainforest Jungle place had lots of trees and there were dinosaurs there! And there were monkeys living in the trees, and ants and termites on the floor. One of the termites bit me on the toe and I screamed a lot because it really hurt.

This is one of the monkeys we saw with her baby. The jungle place was wicked.

On Sunday we go to Kuala Lumpur (the capital) for a few days.

I am missing you all very much. Lots of love, Mateo xxxxxx
